Israel is advancing a new defense initiative aimed at jointly producing and stockpiling ammunition with partner countries to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers during wartime.
As part of the lessons learned from the recent war, and in order to cope with European arms embargoes while reducing dependence on the US, Israel is promoting the creation of a multinational partnership for the joint production and supply of ammunition.
According to the emerging framework, the alliance will include several countries whose identities have not yet been disclosed. The agreement is expected to focus mainly on relatively universal types of ammunition that are widely used by many armed forces, such as artillery shells and other standard munitions.
Under the proposed arrangement, each participating country would commit to manufacturing and storing a defined quantity of ammunition. If one of the member states becomes involved in a war, the other partners would be obligated to supply ammunition from their reserves.
