Israel’s Foreign Ministry has turned the tables on Spain, summoning the Spanish Chargé d'Affaires in Israel for a clarification talk after videos and photos allegedly showed Spanish authorities using serious violence against flotilla activists.
The move came under the direction of Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar. Ambassador Yossi Amrani, head of the political division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, summoned Spain’s Chargé d'Affaires, Francisca Pedros, following the publication of the footage.
The message from Israel was clear: Spain cannot send or encourage anti-Israel flotilla provocateurs, condemn Israel for enforcing a lawful maritime blockade, and then stay silent when its own authorities use force against the same activists.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Spain’s behavior exposes a deep double standard. When Israel acts legally to enforce the naval blockade against Gaza, Spanish officials are quick to condemn. But when Spanish authorities are seen using force against flotilla participants, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and his ministers remain silent.
