The President of France, Emmanuel Macron tweeted today: "I welcome the decision of the Egyptian authorities to release Ramy Shaath. I share the relief of his wife Céline Le Brun, whom he will join in France, with whom we have not given up. Thank you to everyone who played a positive role in this happy outcome."
BACKGROUND: Ramy Shaath is a Palestinian whose late father Nabil Shaath was a top Fatah official and played a big part in the Palestinian Authority. He also has an Egyptian passport and was jailed for being a part of the out-lawed Muslim Brotherhood. He has, in a deal with the Egyptian government, renounced his Egyptian citizenship and left for exile in Paris.
To this, the presidential-candidate Eric Zemmour tweeted:
While Egypt deprived Ramy Shaath of his citizenship, Macron picked a side as he welcomed a friend of the Muslim Brotherhood. I will ban this dangerous organization.
