Europe is weighing unprecedented offensive steps in response to Russia’s rapidly intensifying hybrid warfare across the continent.
In recent months, European states have faced a sharp rise in Russian-linked drone incursions, sabotage attempts, GPS jamming affecting civilian aviation, and aggressive espionage operations targeting critical infrastructure.
EU and NATO officials are now actively discussing countermeasures once considered off-limits. Among them: coordinated cyber strikes on Russian assets, immediate and public attribution of hostile activity to the Kremlin, and surprise NATO military drills positioned close to Russia’s borders to signal readiness and resolve.
Decision-makers emphasize that any response must strengthen deterrence without triggering direct military escalation. Still, senior officials warn that Europe’s patience is nearly exhausted as Moscow repeatedly probes for weaknesses.
