A New York judge has granted President-elect Donald Trump the opportunity to seek the dismissal of a criminal case related to business records, in which he was convicted earlier this year.
This decision comes in light of his recent victory in the presidential election on November 5.
Acting Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan issued an order allowing Trump's legal team until December 2 to file a motion for dismissal, with the prosecution required to respond by December 9. Additionally, Justice Merchan has put a hold on sentencing, postponing the previously scheduled hearing set for November 26 indefinitely.
Trump, 78, was found guilty in May of a felony for falsifying business records in an effort to conceal a scheme aimed at influencing the 2016 election through payments made to silence allegations of extramarital affairs. He has consistently denied these accusations.
