In April and May each year, the Bee-eaters arrive in Israel. The nesting is in progress mainly in the limestone cliffs and Loam soil. These beautiful birds photograph well, as seen in these stunning pictures captured by nature photographer Shlomo Waldmann. Waldmann commented on the mating process of the birds, saying: "The craft of courtship in nature is really fascinating to me. The ability to understand the mood of suitors in nature, and the understanding that is created between the couple, makes me feel admiration anew every time." Interestingly, the Bee-eaters are monogamous, with partners maintaining a relationship. The male feeds only his female partner, and the female awaits the meal- sometimes losing patience and searching for bees (or other food) for herself.
