Egypt tells Israel: Conquering Gaza may lead to large Egyptian troop deployment in Sinai
Egypt is sounding the alarm over Israel’s new plan to conquer the Gaza Strip and maintain a permanent presence there, warning it may respond by sending major military forces into Sinai—even if it violates the peace treaty with Israel.
The plan, revealed during a recent Israeli cabinet meeting, involves clearing out northern and central Gaza and pushing the over 2 million residents south, toward the Egyptian border. Israel aims to provide humanitarian aid through a pilot project run by two American companies, which it claims will block Hamas from diverting supplies to fighters.
Cairo is furious, seeing the move as an attempt to force mass displacement and sabotage efforts, led by Egypt and Qatar, to negotiate a ceasefire. Egypt's foreign minister condemned the plan and called on the international community to act against what he labeled Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon.
