YOSEPH HADDAD -- Ido Somech is not only one of the great heroes of October 7, but one of the bravest in the history of the IDF. As a young tank crewman in Tank 2B, he fought courageously with his team from the very start of the Hamas terror attack.
Even after hours of battle and once he was left alone, Ido continued operating the tank, eliminating dozens of terrorists through both fire and driving. When the tank finally broke down near the Nova party site, he continued fighting with his bare hands, sustaining serious injuries.
After months of intensive rehabilitation, Ido returned to active duty, determined to honor his fallen and kidnapped comrades. Just this week, ten months after the attack, he completed his service — and immediately signed up for reserve duty.
His courage and selfless devotion have become legendary, and his battle story will be told for generations. The people of Israel are proud and grateful for heroes like Ido Somech.
