NEWSRAEL: After Turkey invaded and occupied the north of the mainly Christian Island of Cyprus in 1974 (which has never been accepted by any other country except Turkey itself) Turkey has been creating provocations on the island.
NICOSIA (Reuters) – Turkish Cypriots on Tuesday accused the United Nations of bias in a dispute over a road construction project that led to the most serious incidents of tension in years on the ethnically divided island last week.
Scuffles broke out on Friday between U.N. peacekeepers and Turkish Cypriot security personnel when peacekeepers attempted to prevent construction work in an area the U.N. mission in Cyprus, UNFICYP, says is under its jurisdiction.
The incidents – the most serious in years – were condemned by the U.N. Security Council in a statement on Monday.
From our source on Twitter - Babak Taghvaee:
"I have been informed that there were at-least eleven Turkish Army officers & soldiers in civilian clothes among those Turkish workers who attacked UN Peacekeepers (UNFICYP) in Cyprus Buffer Zone a few days ago.
It was a pre-planned attack authorized by Turkish Intelligence to evaluate & test reactions of International community to the illegal occupation of North of Cyprs & plans for illegal expansion of the occupation zone.
