In recent weeks, an interesting and very dangerous political shift can be seen in two important countries for Israel: Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
Both are clearly approaching the coalition that ties Iran, Qatar, and the "Muslim Brotherhood" organizations, which has so far taken control of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen.
Regarding Saudi Arabia, which is holding talks with Iran in Baghdad, it is important to read between the lines the declaration of Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, emphasizing that Saudi Arabia intends to ease tensions with Iran to maintain security in the Gulf region.
The way to understand this statement that Saudi Arabia is very much afraid of Iranian military actions against, it like attacking ships and tankers, and the Iranian attack on Saudi oil facilities on September 14, 2019- and to keep the Saudi oil industry in the Gulf, Saudi Arabia is ready to bow to the Iranians.
The Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabiei said this week: "We positively assess the negotiations between Tehran and Riyadh, and emphasize that they are being conducted correctly." His remarks mean that Saudi Arabia is doing exactly what is expected of it by Iran.
Jordan has also undergone Iranian training sessions, as Iran is the key state on King Abdullah's wish- the return of the Iraqi and Syrian refugees to their homeland after Iraq and Syria reach - under Iranian auspices - a state of calm.
The king is very concerned about the shaky economy of his kingdom. The economic situation and the level of wages, which the unemployed refugees are lowering, take the Jordanians out of their serenity, and they blatantly express their opinion of the king in the mass demonstrations we have seen in recent months. The pandemic, and ensuing economic crisis, also contributed to King Abdullah's desire to try and reconcile with the Iranians.
In the current state of affairs, Iranian pressure may develop on the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain to cool their ties with Israel. These countries will not sacrifice themselves on the altar of their relations with Israel- and will have no alternative but to obey Iran.
It can be assumed that the Biden administration will encourage such Iranian pressure, to force Israel to return to the Obama administration's paradigm that Israel must resolve the Palestinian problem before any progress is made in its relations with the Arab states.
