Egypt begins pumping (Israeli) natural gas to Lebanon via the Arab Gas Pipeline
Egypt has started supplying gas to Lebanon through the Arab Gas Pipeline, with Syria receiving Israeli gas in return for allowing transit through its territory.
Egypt has begun pumping approximately 50 million cubic feet of natural gas per day to Lebanon via the Arab Gas Pipeline. The flow reportedly started earlier this week, just days after Egypt began supplying similar quantities to Syria.
Earlier this month, Egypt and Syria signed two memoranda of understanding covering the supply of natural gas and petroleum products. The agreements are intended to meet Syria’s urgent energy needs—particularly for electricity generation—and to support ongoing infrastructure rehabilitation efforts.
