Family members of Narges Mohammadi warn that the imprisoned activist is facing a “slow death” as Iranian authorities continue to deny her urgent medical care.
IRAN INTERNATIONAL -- According to statements from her family and legal team, doctors have confirmed she requires at least a month of medical leave, but judicial authorities — including officials in Tehran — are preventing her transfer to a hospital. Lawyers who visited her on April 28 described her condition as “critical.”
Mohammadi is reportedly suffering from dangerously unstable blood pressure, severe weight loss of over 19 kilograms, chest pain, headaches and persistent nausea. Cardiologists have warned she cannot be treated properly in her current location and requires specialized care.
Mohammadi, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023, has spent years in and out of prison for her activism against compulsory hijab laws, the death penalty and the regime’s treatment of political prisoners. She was most recently arrested in December 2025 after attending the funeral of dissident lawyer Khosro Alikordi.
