Hamas terrorist kidnapped and held body for over 10 years to be indicted over Oron Shaul’s body
A Hamas terrorist who held the body of fallen IDF soldier Staff Sgt. Oron Shaul for nearly ten years is expected to be indicted on serious security charges, Israeli police and the Shin Bet announced.
Shaul fell in battle in Shuja’iyya on July 20, 2014, during Operation Protective Edge. His body was abducted by Hamas and held in Gaza until January 2025, when the Shin Bet and IDF launched Operation Southern Red and brought him back to Israel for burial.
Authorities have now revealed that, as part of the efforts to return Shaul, Israeli forces carried out a covert operation to arrest Ibrahim Hilo, a Hamas terrorist from the Shati Battalion. During his Shin Bet interrogation, Hilo revealed that he had held Shaul’s body for close to a decade and provided precise information about its location inside a civilian building in Gaza City.
