A recent report from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) indicates that the welfare, quality of life, and opportunities in the Gaza Strip have reverted to levels not seen since 1955.
This assessment utilizes the Human Development Index (HDI), a metric established by the UN to evaluate human development across various nations. The HDI is calculated based on three key factors: average life expectancy, average years of education, and per capita income.
A higher HDI value signifies greater human and societal development. According to the report, Gaza's HDI is projected to fall to 0.408, a figure reflecting conditions from 1955 and effectively undoing over 69 years of advancement.
