Six Muslim men targeted a Muslim woman and a Hindu man; they beat the couple, abused and filmed them…the woman tried to cover her face with a burqa, but they lifted her veil and filmed her face to humiliate her.
The Muslim woman is married but has been in a consensual relationship with the Hindu man for three years.
They dragged the woman out of their hotel room and kidnapped and gang-raped her as punishment for being with a non-Muslim man.
The woman told police:
“I reached the lodge around 1 pm. A few minutes after I entered, many youths [Muslim] barged in and attacked us. They assaulted me and took me on a bike. I was taken to a forest and raped. I begged them to leave me, but they did not pay any heed. Later, they dropped me near the bus stand and left. I want them to be punished,”
While three of the Muslim men — Afatb Maqbool Ahmed Chandankatti (24), Samaiullah Lalanavar (23), and Mohammed Isaaq Mandakki (23) — were arrested in the morning, the rest were picked up later in the day.
This incident follows another recent case in Belagavi, where seven men were arrested for assaulting two cousins, mistakenly identified as an interfaith couple. Despite clarifying their relationship, the attackers, also from the Islamic community, continued the assault.
To this day, it is absolutely forbidden for a Muslim woman to marry a non-Muslim man, even though men are not under the same restriction as to their choice of marriage partners. Many women who try to marry outside their faith pay with their lives for doing so.
This is a consequence of the low status of a wife against that of her husband. A Muslim is not allowed to be subordinate to a non-Muslim, and, in Islam, a wife is subordinate to her husband.
In her lifetime, a Muslim woman is never to be without the guardianship of a man, from her father to her husband to the male members of her family (in the event that she is widowed or divorced).
Muhammad's blunt words on marriage are what they are. On top of this, he forbade women from traveling alone. Nor are they allowed to be alone with a non-relative male. Women must cover themselves, and when there is sexual sin, they nearly always bear the responsibility of guilt, as it is assumed that they are under a higher standard of conduct.
Stonings, honor killings, floggings, beatings, and even the mutilation of female genitalia are sporadically employed by Muslims to keep women in their place.
