The Iranian women's national soccer team refused to sing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s anthem before an Asian Cup match last week.
Iranian state television branded the players "wartime traitors" for their silent protest, while crowds gathered outside the stadium chanting "Let them go" and "Save our girls."
As the bus carrying the team left the stadium, the situation took a dramatic turn when players inside began signaling “HELP" in sign language. Amnesty International warned the players face persecution or worse if sent home, noting "some of these team members probably have had their families already threatened."
These brave women stood in silent defiance against a brutal regime, and now the world must stand with them.
