Egypt is set to receive advanced air defense missile batteries from Germany in the near future. But who on earth is financing these massive arms deals?
A recent image from a facility belonging to the German defense company Diehl shows a new batch of IRIS-T SLM air defense systems painted in Egyptian camouflage undergoing testing. This strongly suggests that delivery to Egypt’s air defense forces is imminent.
The IRIS-T SLM is considered one of the most advanced air defense systems in the world due to its ability to counter a wide range of aerial threats under various operational conditions. The system consists of a radar unit, a tactical operations center (TOC), and multiple missile launchers, designed to protect strategic assets using IRIS-T SLM missiles with a range of up to 40 kilometers.
All components are mounted on 20-foot ISO frames, giving the system high mobility and easy deployment. Additionally, the system uses infrared-guided missiles capable of destroying air targets traveling at speeds of up to Mach 4.
