Since the start of Operation Emergency Containment to combat violent crime in Israel’s Arab communities hundreds of police officers and special units operated throughout the country, conducted more than 1,200 searches, arrested over 1,500 people and detaining over 1,100 suspects for violent offenses, possession of illegal weapons, drugs not for personal consumption and other offenses.
Since September 3, 268 different lethal weapons, which pose a danger to the public and are used by criminal elements, have been seized: 145 pistols, 34 rifles, 10 improvised “Carlo” rifles, 36 fragmentation grenades and 43 IEDs (improvised explosive device).
In addition, more than 10.5 million Shekels ($2.83 million) as well as Jordanian currency suspected of originating from criminal offenses was confiscated.
