An investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists revealed details of an attempt by the leader of an international drug trafficking gang to buy a fleet of Egyptian military transport planes.
The investigation reveals that the international drug lord, Christopher Kinahan, requested through a company called "Sea Dream" to purchase 9 DHC-5 Egyptian de Havilland Canada military transport aircraft from the Egyptian Air Force.
Kinahan wanted to purchase this type of aircraft due to its ability to take off and land on short dirt tracks, and posed as an aviation consultant in the humanitarian field, with the help of a Dutch woman, and also shared his work with 3 of his sons, all wanted by the US authorities, and using companies in Dubai, Singapore and Malawi.
