A number of Arab media channels are already promoting the idea that part of Israel's motivation to take control of Gaza is the desire to also take control of the natural gas field located 30 km from the shores of the Gaza Strip.
As is known, this gas field was discovered in 1999 and has commercial potential (according to estimates 1.4 trillion cubic feet). Interest in the field rekindled in 2022 following the energy crisis as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war.
There is an agreement between the Palestinian Authority and an Egyptian company to develop the field and Israel has given its approval.
As a matter of fact, the main reason that the field is not being developed is due to the internal disputes between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas and the desire of all parties involved (Israel, Egypt and the PA) not to give Hamas any opportunity to enjoy the development of the field.
Now, to the extent that Hamas is eliminated and no longer controls Gaza, the development prospects of this field under Israeli and international supervision increase significantly.
