The Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), based in Bahrain, announced on Monday the launch of a large-scale naval operation named “Mare Liberum 5”, aimed at combating piracy and enhancing maritime security in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Gulf of Aden, and the western Indian Ocean.
The operation involves naval and air units from several partner nations.
According to the CMF statement, Task Force 151, led by the Brazilian Navy, is conducting the operation in coordination with the European Union’s Operation Atalanta and regional maritime security centers. The effort is part of an international campaign to safeguard global shipping routes and trade corridors.
The operation, running from November 2 to 6, includes joint sea patrols, intelligence sharing, and the use of advanced surveillance systems to enable immediate responses to maritime threats in high-risk waters.
