The Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Health warned that on Monday beginning in the morning hours high to very high air pollution is expected in the Negev and Arava areas due to high concentrations of respirable particles
Low to moderate air pollution is expected in the rest of the country.
The reason for the high air pollution is strong winds from the southwest, which cause sandstorms and transport dust from the Sinai into Israel’s south. An improvement in air quality is expected towards Monday evening, with the change in wind directions and the arrival of the rain.
In light of this, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, in consultation with the Ministry of Health, recommends that people with health conditions – including heart patients, lung patients, the elderly, children and pregnant women – avoid strenuous physical activity outside. For the general population it is recommended to reduce strenuous physical activity outside.
