Turkish soldiers are ready to enter Gaza at the Americans’ behest. At least, that’s according to Ankara—and Jerusalem isn’t happy.
Why? As I wrote in November, Israel is well aware of the increasing threat Erdogan’s regime poses to the Jewish state—one that is even harder than Iran to confront due to Turkey’s NATO membership.
And while the Netanyahu government may not be doing enough to thwart the threat, that doesn’t mean it wants Turkish soldiers joining the international force in a post-war Gaza.
But beyond the long term strategic concerns, there’s also a more principled one. Why should Israel let a country whose president compared Benjamin Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler and which added Israel to its national security threat list send soldiers to the strip?
