In recent days, Israel has transferred about 110 million shekels from Palestinian Authority (PA) tax funds to 52 collaborators with Israel, who had won compensation in Jerusalem District Court rulings.
This concludes a long, complex legal battle in which the plaintiffs — Palestinians who thwarted hundreds of terror attacks — sought recognition for the abuses they suffered in PA detention and adequate compensation. Represented by attorney Barak Kedem from the firm Arbus Kedem Tzur, they testified about severe torture: brutal beatings with iron rods, burns with heated metal, tooth extractions, suspension upside down, genital abuse, sleep and toilet deprivation, exposure to freezing cold while naked, forced humiliations, and in some cases, executions.
Medical reports confirmed all suffer severe, lasting psychological harm, including PTSD, deep depression, grief reactions, and serious daily functioning impairments. Many also have severe orthopedic, neurological, and dental injuries.
The court awarded them 110 million shekels for unlawful imprisonment, physical and mental harm, and suffering, based on a 2021 Israeli Supreme Court precedent establishing that Israel’s judiciary can hear lawsuits against the PA and that the PA has no state immunity.
