The IDF announced it has eliminated Hajj Yusuf Ismail Hashem, commander of Hezbollah’s southern front, in a precise naval strike in Beirut’s Dahiyeh district. The operation was carried out Tuesday night with intelligence guidance from Military Intelligence and Northern Command.
Hashem was considered a central operational figure and a key successor to senior Hezbollah commander Ali Karaki, who was eliminated in 2024. He had more than four decades of experience and was directly responsible for Hezbollah’s offensive operations against Israel, including rockets, UAVs, and anti-tank attacks, as well as efforts to rebuild the group’s military capabilities in southern Lebanon.
Lebanese reports indicate at least seven killed and 26 wounded in the strike in Beirut. The strike comes amid broader regional escalation, including Iranian missile fire toward central Israel earlier the same day.
The elimination of Hashem is expected to significantly disrupt Hezbollah’s command structure. As head of the southern front—the organization’s most critical operational arena against Israel—his removal creates a leadership vacuum at a sensitive moment. It also deals a blow to Hezbollah’s ongoing attempts to rebuild its military infrastructure after sustained Israeli operations.
