The Knesset Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee will begin discussions on Wednesday on a compromise judicial reform plan.
The move comes after Justice Minister Yariv Levin and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar unveiled a softened overhaul on Thursday.
Levin’s initial proposal, introduced in early 2023, sought to grant the ruling coalition near-total control over judicial appointments. The legislation advanced through committee in March 2023 but was frozen with the formation of a unity government following Hamas’s October 7 attack.
The committee will now consider withdrawing the original bill from the Knesset plenum to reintroduce it for amendments and further deliberation. However, Wednesday’s session will not address the substance of Levin’s new proposals.
