US warns Turkey of harsh economic sanctions

The United States has warned Turkey against possible sanctions, US Assistant Treasury Secretary Axelrod told the Financial Times.

This could happen if Turkey does not stop exporting high-tech products to Russia that can be used during the Russian-Ukrainian war.

According to the source, Washington's warning was a sign of Turkey's intention to maintain strong trade ties with Russia and actually tarnished relations between the two NATO allies.

"The United States is particularly concerned that Turkey has become a central hub through which Western electronics... find their way to Russian missiles and drones."
