A former Muslim speaker argues that Islam, when implemented politically, could undermine what he calls the most successful system of governance in human history.
In a widely shared video, former Muslim Dan Burmawi delivers a sharp critique of what he describes as “political Islam,” arguing that it represents more than a personal faith and instead operates as a full governing framework.
Burmawi states that Islam, when applied as a political system, includes its own constitutional structure, legal code, financial mechanisms, and foreign policy doctrine. He argues that Sharia functions as a governing constitution, jihad as a strategic doctrine, and zakat as an embedded economic system. According to him, this creates what he characterizes as a parallel model of governance within democratic societies.
He further claims that if political Islam is not confronted, it could “end the most successful way of life in human history,” referring to Western liberal democracy built on individual rights, constitutional law, and secular governance.
