The UK has warned its citizens going to Sweden of possible terrorist attacks following Quran burnings in the country.
In an updated travel advice, Britain's foreign ministry said Swedish authorities had successfully disrupted some planned attacks and made arrests.
Earlier in July, the US State Department had also warned of possible terrorist attacks in Sweden in its travel advice.
Acknowledging UK’s travel advice, Sweden’s National Security Adviser Henrik Landerholm reiterated the increased threats to Sweden. Landerholm said recent attacks on Sweden’s embassy in Iraq, Lebanon and Turkey contributed to the risk assessment.
While Quran burnings are allowed in Sweden under the umbrella of free speech regulations, the act is regarded as blasphemy by Muslims. Muslim countries around the world have condemned the burnings of their holy book in Sweden.
