Basij fighters reportedly abandon posts after drone strikes across Iran
Iranian opposition sources report that hundreds of Basij militia members abandoned their positions overnight after several groups were targeted by drone strikes across multiple cities in Iran. According to the reports, the fighters fled their checkpoints after witnessing fellow Basij members being struck from the air, leaving some security positions suddenly unmanned.
The reports claim that the attacks occurred at numerous locations and may still be ongoing. Opposition sources say there could be dozens of casualties among Basij fighters. Additional incidents were reported in the city of Shiraz, where a Basij checkpoint was reportedly attacked in the same manner just minutes before the latest updates.
The sources describe the developments as a significant moment, suggesting the strikes may be intended to weaken regime control and “open the way for the street to seize strongholds of power.” Overnight incidents were also reported in the city and province of Isfahan, where gatherings and checkpoints of Basij militia members were allegedly targeted.
