The US president warned Tehran of overwhelming retaliation while demanding that it reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end attacks on commercial shipping.
President Donald Trump says 1,000 American missiles are currently aimed at Iran, with thousands more ready for use if the Islamic Republic continues its aggression or attempts to assassinate him.
Trump said Iran had requested renewed negotiations and that Washington agreed to continue talks. However, he declared the existing ceasefire over and gave Tehran until Saturday to publicly confirm that the Strait of Hormuz is open and that attacks on commercial vessels will stop.
Iran reportedly told US officials privately that the recent attacks on ships were carried out mistakenly by an “errant” faction. Publicly, however, Tehran continues to blame Washington for violating the memorandum between the two countries.
