The terrorist organization is reportedly preparing to dissolve its de facto government and transfer civilian authority to a technocratic committee.
Hamas is expected to announce the dissolution of the body that has effectively governed Gaza for nearly 20 years, according to a Saudi media report citing two sources inside the terrorist organization.
The move would reportedly allow a technocratic “Gaza Administration Committee,” headed by Ali Shaath, to assume responsibility for civilian affairs. The committee was established around six months ago but has so far been prevented by Israel from entering Gaza.
Senior Israeli security officials reportedly believe Hamas is acting under growing pressure and fears another major Israeli military operation. Even if Hamas formally relinquishes civilian administration, the move does not necessarily mean it intends to disarm, surrender its terrorist infrastructure or give up its influence over Gaza.
