WATCH: Reuters' Gaza photos break their own rules
Not every fake photo is AI. Sometimes the location is real, the people are real, and the destruction is real, but the scene itself has been arranged to tell a specific story.
Brand-new pots, pristine toys, staged dinner tables, and props placed in rubble are not neutral documentation. They are intentional messaging.
That is exactly what photojournalism is supposed to avoid.
Reuters’ own standards say photographers must not stage scenes, move objects, or direct subjects.
So if staged Gaza images are being sold as spontaneous news photography, Reuters needs to explain why its own rules are not being enforced.
