Growing concern is emerging over alleged ties between Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Polisario Front, the separatist movement operating in Western Sahara.
The Polisario Front has long been involved in a territorial conflict with Morocco, but recent reports and statements by American officials have raised alarms over possible Iranian involvement through the IRGC and its regional proxy networks.
According to the reports, the cooperation may include military training, operational support, and possible transfers of drones or advanced weapons.
From Morocco’s perspective, this is seen as a direct threat to regional stability and national security. In 2018, Morocco cut diplomatic ties with Iran after accusing Tehran and Hezbollah of supporting the Polisario Front through covert channels.
