Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the opening of a special government meeting at the YAMAM (The Israeli national anti-terror unit) base to mark the unit's 50th anniversary.
"There is no better unit in the world than the YAMAM in the fight against terrorism and hostage rescue. We will give it all the support and resources to continue to be the spearhead of the State of Israel's fight against terrorism."
This is a special meeting to mark 50, but because of the war, it is 51 years since the establishment of the YAMAM unit. We are here to congratulate you, my fellow ministers and ministers, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Defense, the Commissioner-General, the Border Guard Commander, the unit commander and all the commanders and soldiers that we will meet during the visit.
In fact, today we are marking a government meeting at the heart of the operational history of the State of Israel. The establishment of the YAMAM led to people preparing, learning, and developing combat and rescue methods that we had not known before and were not recognized anywhere in the world. I say with a clear statement - there is no better unit in the world than the YAMAM in the fight against terrorism and rescuing hostages. There is no such thing. Everyone who visits here, and there are many visitors here, attests to this. They are speechless. We are now celebrating 50 years of operations, breakthroughs, secret collaborations with the best units in the world, and 50 years of saving lives.
