A senior Greek military figure says the Israel–Greece–Cyprus alliance is moving from theory to real operational military cooperation under US backing.
A dramatic interview on Greece’s One TV has revealed new details about the rapidly deepening strategic security axis between Israel, Greece, and Cyprus. Retired Greek Major General Konstantinos Kousantas said the geopolitical alliance known as the “3+1 format” — Israel, Greece, Cyprus, plus the US — is now entering an operational phase, explicitly under American sponsorship.
According to Kousantas, the framework rests on three pillars: security, energy, and the economy. However, he stressed that the moment has arrived for this alliance to gain real military substance. He revealed that on December 22, the leaders of the three countries — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides — discussed establishing a joint rapid-response military force of roughly 2,500 troops, equivalent to a brigade.
The proposed force would reportedly include advanced assets such as F-35 fighter jets. Greek media figures participating in the interview praised Israel’s military capabilities, with one journalist stating bluntly: “Israel is on another level. They are the leading armed forces in the world. An alliance with them clearly benefits us.”
