US Central Command announced on Sunday that the Arleigh Burke–class guided-missile destroyer USS Delbert D. Black (DDG-119) has departed Israel’s Eilat port following a scheduled port visit.
The destroyer was commissioned on September 26, 2020, and named after Delbert D. Black, the first Master Chief Petty Officer of the US Navy, who served from 1941 to 1971 and fought in World War II and the Vietnam War. The ship is a multi-mission platform with advanced capabilities in air defense, anti-submarine warfare, surface combat, and naval fire support.
US Naval Forces Central Command / the US Fifth Fleet serves as the maritime component of CENTCOM, with an area of responsibility covering roughly 2.5 million square miles of waterways, including the Red Sea.
