Australia’s ABC network reported overnight that Philippine security and immigration officials confirmed that Sajid and Nawid Akram, identified as the attackers, traveled to the Philippines last month, where they reportedly underwent training with a “military-style” character.
According to the report, Nawid Akram maintained long-standing ties with ISIS-linked figures in Australia, including jihadist preacher Wissam Haddad and Yusuf Obeidat, a known ISIS youth recruiter previously convicted of terrorism-related offenses.
