WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Justice announced it has seized approximately $201,400 in cryptocurrency intended to fund the terrorist group Hamas. The action disrupted an ongoing financing network that had laundered over $1.5 million in virtual currency since October 2024.
According to court documents, Hamas supporters worldwide were encouraged via encrypted group chats to donate through at least 17 cryptocurrency addresses. The collected funds were funneled into an operational wallet and laundered through various exchanges using suspected financiers and over-the-counter brokers.
“Hamas is responsible for the deaths of many U.S. and Israeli nationals, and we will use every legal tool at our disposal to stop their campaign of terror and murder,” said U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr.
Sue J. Bai, head of the Justice Department’s National Security Division, emphasized that under Attorney General Pam Bondi’s leadership, dismantling Hamas remains a top priority. FBI Special Agent in Charge Raul Bujanda also noted that disrupting financial support is crucial to undermining terrorist operations.
