US President Donald Trump sharply criticized Israeli President Isaac Herzog, accusing him of failing to keep a promise to pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“He’s a disgrace. He should grant a pardon today,” Trump reportedly said. “He promised me five times that he would give a pardon and didn’t keep his word. I don’t want anything to distract Bibi except the war with Iran.”
The comments come amid continued debate in Israel over Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial and whether a presidential pardon should be considered during wartime. Trump has repeatedly called the charges against Netanyahu a “political witch hunt” and has urged Herzog to intervene so that the prime minister can focus fully on national security and the confrontation with Iran.
