Captured Hamas documents reveal that the October 7 architect expected Hezbollah and Iranian-backed forces to invade Israel simultaneously from Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.
Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar reportedly envisioned the October 7 massacre as the opening stage of a far broader regional assault on Israel. Documents captured in Gaza show that Sinwar discussed multiple invasion scenarios with Hezbollah in the years before the attack, including simultaneous offensives from Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.
The documents indicate that Sinwar viewed the Jordanian border as a major potential front and proposed sending guerrilla forces into Israel from both Jordan and Syria. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah reportedly described one scenario as realistic and said he would raise it with Iran’s supreme leader.
When Hamas launched its massacre on October 7, Sinwar urgently appealed to Hezbollah to begin concentrated rocket attacks and a major ground offensive. Hezbollah entered the war only in a limited fashion, however, exposing the critical gap between Sinwar’s expectations and the response of Iran’s terrorist axis.
