Mamdani is learning that big smiles won't get you anywhere in NYC
Following a major winter storm that dumped over a foot of snow across parts of New York City last weekend, trash, recycling, and compost collection services have faced significant delays as the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) prioritizes snow removal.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani's administration has not formally suspended services but has shifted resources to clear streets, bus stops, and intersections, leading to backups in garbage pickup and reports of accumulating waste in some neighborhoods.
The storm, which hit early Sunday, January 25, prompted alternate-side parking suspensions through at least Tuesday, January 27, with parking meters remaining in effect.
