After Iran has been using the Houthis, its Shiite proxy in Yemen, for the past six months to impose a naval blockade that is shaking the world economy, now it is also aiming to attack the islands in the Somalia region.
According to American intelligence, discussions are taking place between the Houthis (Shia) in Yemen and the Somali terrorist organization Shabab al-Mujahideen affiliated to al-Qaeda (Sunni).
Despite ideological differences, the Houthis and al-Shabaab are considering cooperating due to their common opposition to the United States. This potential alliance raises concerns about escalating tensions in Somalia and the Red Sea.
A deal between the two terrorist organizations will provide the Houthis with a new source of income, and al-Shabaab will allow it access to advanced weapons that it can aim at US assets in Somalia in particular and East Africa in general.
