The IDF and Israel Ministry of Defense unveiled the INS "Drakon," (Dragon) a new, strategically equipped Dolphin AIP-class submarine, enhancing Israel’s operational reach.
A ceremony at Germany's "Kiel" shipyard marked its naming, attended by Israeli Navy Chief VADM David Saar Salama, Deputy Defense Director Zeev Landau, and Israeli Ambassador to Germany Ron Prosor.
The submarine, named "Drakon" (Dragon) for its symbolic power and legacy connection to the INS Dakar, will join the Israeli fleet in 2025.
Designed with advanced technology, it expands the IDF's capabilities across multiple arenas and embodies Israel's strong defense partnership with Germany.
Israeli Navy Chief Salama described the "Drakon" (Dragon) as essential to Israel’s security: "Seen and unseen, it will dwell in distant and hidden realms for extended periods." Salama emphasized that the submarine extends the Navy’s reach and strengthens its strategic depth.
Defense Deputy Landau highlighted the collaboration with Germany, celebrating a shared vision for a secure future. Ambassador Prosor also underscored the submarine’s role in the Israel-Germany relationship, calling it a "model of synergy between security and diplomacy."
