Lebanese TV host Marcel Ghanem said on MTV (Lebanon) on May 15, 2025, that it is no achievement for Lebanon to be the last country to sign a peace treaty with Israel, calling it yet another sign that the Lebanese prefer to follow rather than lead.
He stated that the wars in the region, in which Lebanese people were used as “cannon fodder,” are coming to an end, and questioned who would compensate Lebanon for the years wasted by the “Resistance Axis,” especially if Iran reaches an agreement with the United States.
Ghanem asked whether Lebanon would once again be left behind, or if it might finally have the opportunity to “join the train of peace and prosperity.” He called on Lebanese decision-makers to acknowledge that the war with Israel has brought no benefit to the Lebanese people.
Marcel Ghanem: "Is it an achievement to be the last country to sign peace [with Israel]? Definitely not. It is another indication that we like to be followers, and arrive late to all negotiations tables, where we only have leftovers to eat. When the Arab world signs peace [with Israel], will we remain the only defenders of the Palestinian state? We have spent 50 years of our lives defending this Palestinian state.
