Palestinian Writer Majed Al-Kayali: The Palestinian armed struggle ended with October 7 – it brought a harsh and bitter Nakba, deeper than 1948; Today the military option has no place
In a September 18, 2025 interview with Ahmad Biqawi on YouTube, Palestinian writer and researcher Majed Al-Kayali said that Palestinian armed struggle became a necessity for Arab regimes to cover their defeat in the 1967 war.
He said that Palestinian refugee communities, along with the notion of their return, are disappearing. Al-Kayali stated that while armed struggle can be a form of pressure on Israel, it is a “big problem” to believe it can liberate Palestine.
He explained that Fatah only adopted armed struggle after other factions, including the leftists, had done so in order to compete with them, and later carried out suicide bombings during the Second Intifada to rival Hamas and PIJ.
