WATCH: US Plans Counter To China-Russia Hypersonic Missiles
US Navy warships may soon intercept an attacking hypersonic weapon traveling at five times the speed of sound.

That is the goal of the Pentagon’s ambitious Glide Phase Interceptor (GPI) program. The US navy plans to use its Vertical Launch Systems to fire interceptors fast and far enough to destroy an incoming hypersonic missile. The US is using an emerging technology Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) for conceptual and computer simulation work on the GPI.
