Turkey’s new ballistic missile, the “Typhoon,” has drawn significant attention in military circles, especially in Israel and Greece.
The missile marks a major leap in Ankara's missile capabilities. Turkish media reports indicate that this short-range ballistic missile has a range between 561 and 1,000 kilometers, enhancing its ability to strike strategic regional targets.
The Typhoon's first field test took place in October 2022, launched from Rize-Artvin Airport in northern Turkey towards the Black Sea. In that test, a version with a 561 km range hit its target precisely after a flight of only 458 seconds—demonstrating high accuracy and performance.
The missile has a diameter of 610 mm and is estimated to be 7.5 to 8 meters long. It is believed to exceed Mach 8 in speed, reaching its target at extreme velocity. It may include evasive maneuvering technology during its terminal phase, making it harder to intercept—particularly by advanced air defense systems like the Patriot.
