Senior Hezbollah commander Ali Musa Daqduq, who was reportedly eliminated in a recent Israeli strike, was closely linked to one of the deadliest and most sophisticated attacks carried out against American troops in Iraq.
The January 2007 attack targeted a US military compound in Karbala. The operation was carried out by the Shiite terrorist group Asaib Ahl al-Haq, whose operatives were reportedly trained and directed by Daqduq.
The terrorists arrived wearing uniforms resembling those of American soldiers, spoke English and carried forged identification. After gaining entry to the compound, they abducted four US servicemen.
The four soldiers were murdered shortly afterward and their bodies were later recovered. A fifth American soldier was killed during the initial assault on the compound.
