Israel assesses that Hamas is attempting to undermine the technocrats committee meant to administer the Gaza Strip under the current ceasefire framework.
The committee is reportedly completing preparations to begin operating on the ground, pending implementation of the ceasefire understandings between Israel and Hamas. Senior officials in Jerusalem estimate Israel may allow committee members to enter Gaza from Egypt after the upcoming “Peace Council” meeting in Washington later this week.
Publicly, Hamas claims it is ready to transfer its civilian and administrative powers. Sources within the terrorist organization say all relevant materials — documents, files, databases, personnel, buildings, and civil mechanisms — have been prepared for handover, and that Hamas would temporarily assist until the transition is complete.
However, senior Israeli security officials argue that in practice Hamas is creating obstacles. According to these assessments, Hamas is setting conditions and demanding the replacement of certain committee members it opposes. Israeli officials believe this reflects a broader attempt to retain effective control in Gaza while appearing to relinquish authority.
